Information on Solar School Grants

Illinois Solar Schools

The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation (ICECF) provides grants toward a small solar array (~1kW) for educational use and community awareness of renewable energy. The current grant is given to cover schools for 90% of the installation cost, up to $10,000 maximum. Typically applications need to be submitted by late March of each year.

Basic Guidelines:

1. The array must be visible to the students and public. The proposed location should be unshaded and facing south.

2. The school should have completed or is in the process of doing an energy efficient lighting installation.

3. A report discribing placement, cirriculum use, etc. needs to be made to the ICECF and a short Solar Celebration program done to publicly recognize the new equipment. ICECF has access to some education material under their Teacher Resources page.

4. The school needs to have an Internet router installed with the PV system to display data on the Illinois Solar Schools Website. SunAir Systems includes the data collection component as part of the installation process.

Additional details for the grant process, as well as a list of educational resources, can be found on the ICECF website.
